Joe O'Donnell

I joined the British School of Beijing in August 2016 after I decided to take on a new challenge working in an international school. I come from Galway City in the Republic of Ireland where I completed a 3 year Bachelor of Arts at the National University of Ireland, Galway. I then moved to London in September 2011 where I completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Education at St. Mary’s University in Twickenham.

After I qualified as a teacher in June 2012 I spent one year supply teaching in a variety of schools around London which gave me a great chance to teach children of all ages from reception up to year 6. After gaining great experience from teaching in a wide variety of schools I decided to look for something more permanent and took up a year 2 position at a Hounslow Primary School in West London. I taught in Year 2 for three years before moving to Beijing.

I decided to move over to Beijing with my partner, Charlotte, who is also a teacher here at BSB. We both love travelling and are looking forward to exploring the many beautiful locations that Asia has to offer. I am particularly looking forward to exploring Beijing and finally visiting the Great Wall of China.

My hobbies include running, swimming, football and cycling as well as playing the odd round of golf, something I am not very good at! I also enjoy going for long walks and look forward to learning more about Chinese culture, as well as studying the language.
