English Teacher

After qualifying in Britain as an English teacher, I soon found myself in the position of Head of Department and steering my team through the rigours of what used to be a week of interrogation to be rewarded with ‘outstanding’. Personally, I put it down to their professionalism, hard work and maybe the never-ending supply of chocolate I provided!  Perhaps it is because I am the youngest of nine children with a family that is spread out around the world, I am a person with a huge sense of loyalty, genuine love of children, compassion for others and a commitment to ‘Every Child Matters’. As a result, I have preferred to stay with schools to see my remit through rather than seek new positions. Hence, in over more than twenty years, I have only worked in four schools albeit, ones with very different environments and needs. With a list far too long to mention of responsibilities and successes during that time, I became an Assistant Head Teacher with responsibilities for staff development and the school’s teacher training programme.

With my final school being moved to outstanding on all counts, rather too many family tragedies and my own near-death experience, my husband and I chose that as a perfect time to retire and spend more time in our French home to enjoy our lives together at a far more sedate pace. That was fourteen months ago, and with plans to do some voluntary work for several months at a school we have supported for years in Nepal this October, we updated our inoculations, and were just about to book our flights that week, when we learnt of the positions at BSB Beijing. It did seem rather fateful that the inoculations were the same and being retired we could come immediately. So here we are: at your service, with our usual starting point, “How can we help?”
