Kaye MacIver

I have a Bachelor of Arts from the Australian National University and a Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) from La Trobe University both in Australia. Since the beginning of my career in education in 2001 in Australia I have taught the age range of 11-18 focusing on History, Geography and recently Sociology. I taught Humanities in Australia for a number of years before travelling to Canada to work for a ski season. From there we travelled to the United Kingdom where my husband and I have lived since 2006. I gained my Qualified Teacher Status for the UK in 2007. In 2007, I was chosen to represent the Essex County Council as part of the British Embassy’s Creative teacher exchange, with schools in Pretoria, South Africa focusing on the development and sharing of good practice. In 2008 I took on the role of Head of Humanities at a school in Essex.

As a classroom teacher I am passionate about everything to do with the study of Humanities. I aim to create a classroom environment where my students are encouraged to develop their independent learning style to ensure they are on their personal learning journey to success.

I hail from the Australian city of Bendigo in the state of Victoria. One of its claims to fame is boasting the longest Chinese dragon, Sun Loong, in the Southern Hemisphere. I am happily married and we have two small children who keep us very busy. When I get the opportunity I love to explore historical landmarks and museums wherever we are in the world. I love learning about new cultures and environments. We also like to ski, listen to live music and travel. We are excited to be given this fantastic opportunity to live in China and learn about its culture.

What students say about me:

Mrs MacIver is a teacher who constantly strives to give her students the best opportunities within their education; she is a caring teacher who always gives her students the best that she can possibly offer. We are proud to have had Mrs MacIver as a teacher’

‘Mrs MacIver is undoubtedly one of the most dedicated teachers I have ever been taught by. passion for her subject is something which shines through every single lesson, her teaching makes Humanities come alive and I feel very lucky to have had her teach me throughout my time at school’
