Staff Profile: Lucy Lu

Lucy Lu

Head of Secondary Mandarin, Mandarin Teacher

This is my eleventh year teaching Chinese. Before I joined BSB Shunyi, I taught Chinese in an international school in Macao. I graduated from Beijing Language and Culture University, majoring in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. I went to the United States to teach Chinese at Hamilton College for several years, ranging from beginner level to advanced level. During the period of teaching at Hamilton, I had great opportunities to work with famous professors of Chinese in the field of Chinese language teaching in the USA. I did research in terms of task-based language learning, comprehensive performance assessment and using technology tools into Chinese teaching.  I also presented some research papers at different conference in America. In 2011, I gained my master degree from Seton Hall University in New jersey, majoring Asian Studies and holding the teaching certificate from Educational Department of New Jersey.

My teaching philosophy is improving student Chinese proficiency by communicative approach. I hope students can meet two goals after the class. 1) feel comfortable and confident to communicate with native Chinese speakers in Chinese; 2) understand Chinese culture and the way of Chinese thinking through learning language.

In my spare time, I love spending time with my baby boy who is nine months now. In addition, as an indoor person, I like reading books and drinking Chinese tea.
