Colleen Usher

Mathematics Teacher, International Award Silver leader, CAS Coordinator

My origins are in Portsmouth, England.  I hold a BA in Mathematics and Education from Chichester University, Sussex.   I have previously taught in an all girls' school in the South of England for the last 8 years.  While in post I co-ordinated the Key Stage 3 curriculum and deputised for the Head of Mathematics while they were on Maternity leave.

I am a trained Bronze Leader of the Duke of Edinburgh Award and this assists me in helping others reach their full potential in and outside of the classroom. I am passionate about my subject and I like to make my lessons relevant to the real world.  I actively encourage all to be a part of an inclusive learning environment, using creativity in lessons.

Outside of school I enjoy kayaking, hiking and travelling. I love meeting new people and experiencing different cultures. I am looking forward to exploring China and other countries, with all they have to offer.

All pupils should have the Be Ambitious aspirations and this will come from teachers promoting these aspirations in class. Giving a value to the learning and engaging their students to strive to achieve their best.  It is important that the students see this as a life choice and that teachers also share these initiatives to strive to be their best.  Recognition should be given to pupils who are always promoting or actively engaging with the Be Ambitious philosophy.   The process quite rightly is a school wide initiative that is overt in the classroom.
