University Guidance Counsellor

My goal is to empower students through university counselling and open the doors of opportunities.  I started my career in education as a Fellow at the United Nations in Africa. It was there I discovered the impact education had on a woman.  When you educate a woman you inevitably educate an entire family.  Education can change the trajectory of a person’s life, a whole community and eventually, the world. I took this experience in Africa as my calling.  Education is a door opener. There is no better time to attend university than now; I am thrilled to be part of the British School of Beijing, Shunyi campus family.

I have been working as a school counsellor for 24 years, in early, primary, middle and secondary education, working in all areas of student’s development has provided me with a unique window into understanding how to grow a successful, global, productive citizens.  Additionally, I have enjoyed working in Europe, North American, the Middle East, Africa and now Asia.  All these experiences have sharpened my lens and stretched my perspective of what resources are available to prepare the next generation to attend university. The higher education market has changed dramatically over the last ten years.  I am committed to keep growing and honing my skills as a university counsellor.  I am constantly visiting universities, meeting Deans, Directors, admission representatives and employers learning about new programs. This summer I visited twelve universities in New York. The past summer I visited universities in Canada.

I am a people person and I’m naturally curious about culture and how it impacts our relationships.  I recently completed the first phase of research on ‘deep culture’ and the impact of international mindedness on the global student.  I am interested in Eastern culture and want to understand more about what make similarities exist between citizens from the East and West.

I visited China just before the Beijing Olympics and now I am back again with my daughter.  I interested in being a part of the world’s largest populations. My goal is to learn enough Chinese so that I can have a conversation with a Chinese native.  But most importantly my goal in moving to China is for my daughter.  Education is my gift to my daughter. I have worked in American Magnet  schools, IB, parochial, private, public and boarding schools. I believe BSB will provide her with a great education.  I am excited for her and for me.  I am open to learn and very excited to see what China has to teach me.
