An Education in Goal-Setting BISB Class of 2013 graduate Orestes Marinos-Iatrides shares his story, including how his education at our school taught him how to set and reach for goals. Orestes Marinos-Iatrides has many goals. He hopes to graduate college with a degree in health science and policy, and perhaps a minor in neuroscience. Eventually, he wants to become a cardiovascular surgeon.

And while there's still a lot of work to be done in order to achieve his dreams, the college sophomore said he's confident he already has the foundation he needs to get started- a foundation built at the British International School of Boston.

"I think that BISB instilled a sense of trying hard to achieve what my goals are, which I think I will have for the rest of my life," Marinos-Iatrides said this summer.

Marinos-Iatrides graduated from BISB in 2013, joining a growing group of recent alumni who have gone off to top colleges and universities in the United States and around the world.

For Marinos-Iatrides, though his BISB career was short, the lessons he learned have stuck with him.

He first came to the international school in 2012 as a Year 12 student. Previously a student at Buckingham, Browne & Nichols in Cambridge, Marinos-Iatrides said he came to BISB for its use of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.

His experience in the IBDP at BISB, he said, prepared him well for higher education.

"BISB's teachers really care about their students," he said. "I formed really good relationships with all of my teachers. I learned what my strengths and weaknesses are. The benefit of having friends from all over the world was also amazing."

Today, Marinos-Iatrides is a sophomore student at Brandeis University in Massachusetts, where he said he feels prepared to take on any challenge he faces on the way to achieving his dreams.

"The level of depth in subject that BISB and the IBDP demand from their students is not very much unlike that which one would find at universities such as Brandeis," he said. "BISB made my transition into college very easy."
