    Maths Teacher

After graduating in chemistry from the University of Oxford, I spent a year working as a teaching assistant and traveling. I then returned to Oxford to do my PGCE. After completing my teacher training, I worked at Wilson’s School in Surrey, England. Whilst at Wilson’s, I became Head of House, coordinated Royal Institution Masterclasses, and set up the school juggling club. I also helped run the Duke of Edinburgh programme.

Joining the British International School of Boston provided a fantastic opportunity to teach in another country, in a successful environment. Having been to the USA several times, Boston also happened to be one of myfavourite cities. I joined BISB in August 2014.

I graduated university with a degree in Biological and Biochemical Sciences, and then a PGCE in Secondary Science.  In the UK, I taught Biology and Science in a number of schools, eventually becoming Head of Science in a small school in Worcestershire.

In 2005, my family and I made the decision to apply for an overseas job. Initially we thought we would stay for two years and then move on. Nine years later we are still here at BISB.

    William Mitchell

    Head of History

    William Mitchell

As a passionate historian, I have enjoyed seeing history and geopolitics in action in a variety of professional environments. Before training as a teacher at the University of Bristol, I acted as a visitor manager for a 15th century castle in the Cotswolds. In addition, my training as a Royal Naval Officer gave me insight into the role and impact of the military. I enjoy working as part of an international team.

I have been teaching history to 11 to 18 year olds for 10 years in the UK and United States. I decided to join the British International School of Boston due to the strong focus on history in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. I'm pleased to say that so far 100 percent of students have elected to study history when the choice was given, with many going on to select it as a topic for Higher Level study during the IBDP.

    Emma Habgood

English Teacher and Head of Drama

    Emma Habgood

I grew up in Cardiff, South Wales and I graduated from the University of Wales in 2002, with a BA (Hons) Degree in Theatre Arts, with English and QTS. I immediately embarked on my first teaching post in a challenging school in the heart of the Welsh valleys. My passion for the subjects of both English and Drama was firmly ignited, as I taught these from year 7 (6th grade) through to year 13 (12th grade), taking on the role of Head of Drama during this time. In 2007, I decided to combine two of my greatest passions – travel and education, by applying to teach overseas, and I was fortunate to secure the position of English and Drama teacher at The British International School of Chicago. I immediately fell in love with the vibrancy and diversity of living in an American city and I absolutely loved my role of Head of English at the school. The passion for education and learning, coupled with the united endeavor for success, was extremely invigorating and during the five years that I taught in Chicago, the English Department thrived. in 2012, my desire to further my own education and complete a Master’s degree in English Literature brought me back to the UK. For the past four years, I have been teaching English and Drama in a Welsh high school, continuing to develop my skills and experiences, and I have also completed my MA in English Literature.

I have both my Bachelor’s and Master’s of Science degrees in Biology. During graduate school I worked as a teaching assistant and really enjoyed teaching undergraduate Biology Labs. For My graduate research I studied the changes in fish species in the tributaries of the Cuyahoga River in Ohio. After graduate school I worked as an aquatic and wetland biologist where I determined water quality based on the fish and invertebrate populations, and determined wetland boundaries based on plant species and soil identification. Because I loved teaching during graduate school, I decided to switch careers after moving to the Boston area. I became a Massachusetts certified teacher and taught High School Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, and Earth Science on the North Shore of Boston. When my daughter was born I took several years off. I went back to work a few years ago working for a non-profit organization where I brought hands-on science lessons to Boston area elementary and middle schools.
