Languages have been central to my upbringing, education and subsequent career choices, and have opened doors for me to a range of opportunities throughout my life. I have always considered a teaching career as my ultimate aim, but I felt that in order to become the type of teacher that I aspired to be, I would require experience outside of an academic environment before fulfilling that ambition.
I was fortunate enough upon graduation from the University of Edinburgh to fall into my first career as an Expedition Manager and Leader with a Gap Year organization, and a tour manager for a boutique travel company in Europe. Thereafter, I became a journalist for a number of years, but eventually decided that the cut and thrust of Fleet Street was not for me.
Teaching has provided me with a sense of purpose as well as satisfaction that I am contributing in a meaningful way. I relish the opportunities that are constantly presented in school life, as well as the chance to help young people broaden their own horizons. After a few years of teaching in London, my taste for adventure and desire to head overseas again led me to BISB.
The Value of Learning Languages
I am now accompanied on my travels by my wife and two boys, and when I can, will spend all day in a cinema, or riding motorbikes! I also love to cook and eat, which then of course requires exercise, which leads me to the pool, the tennis courts or golf course. And I still can’t escape reading too much news!
what students say about me

The students here are some of the most pleasant and enthusiastic I have had the good fortune to teach, and my colleagues are equally kind, generous and dynamic!
