A New House System for BISC

High-Caliber Houses and a Charity Event

We are excited to introduce a House System at BISC. The house system is widely used in British schools as well as schools that model themselves after the British system.  This system is designed to encourage and increase competition between students and to create a supportive environment. The houses provide students not only an increased feeling of identity and belonging, but also with a sense of tradition and abundant leadership opportunities.

You will by now have received an email from your student's teacher to let you know which house your child or children have been assigned. We've kept families in the same house, which means that parents are assigned to the same house as children. Each house has a name and house-specific colors. We've chosen our house names with our STEAM initiative in mind. Houses have been named after successful space missions.

Our house names are:
Pioneer – Colors: Purple and Navy
Voyager – Colors: Light blue and White
Endeavor- Colors: Red and Light Gray
All students are welcome to wear house colors on Spirit Days.  Our next Spirit Day is Monday, the 28th November.

There will be a number of opportunities for students and parents to get involved over the upcoming term and to win points towards the house total. Examples include:

  • The Sandbox Love Tote Challenge
  • National French Week Upper School Quiz
  • Santa’s link and Christmas Tree Decoration Challenge

Challenges have been designed to connect students, teachers, staff and parents through a common identity, cause, and activity.  . The points will eventually be used to award a House Cup Winner at the end of the year!

The Sandbox Love Tote Challenge
Our first exciting challenge is one of Quantity. We are supporting The Sandbox once again and are looking to make as many Love Totes as possible in time for the holidays.  Love Totes are chock full of items that provide much needed love to a family with a child with cancer or other life altering illness. Items that can be included are:

  • Travel sized toiletries
  • Magazines
  • Books
  • Small games
  • Nonperishable snacks
  • Drinks
  • Puzzle books
  • Small stuffed animals
  • Other items (not sure? Just ask!)

A total of 500 points will be awarded to the house that creates the most Love Totes.  Heads of Houses will be collecting items each morning at drop off and in your student's classroom.

Follow our Houses and stay up to date on this first challenge by liking and visiting the BISC Facebook Page and searching for our hashtags:  #BISCPERSONALBEST #CLTHOUSES #SANDBOX #SHARETHELOVE
