When growing up, I always thought I would be an accountant, but when it came to going off to university, I knew in my heart that it wasn’t for me. My passion was working with children. I graduated from the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff in 2007 with a BA (Hons) degree in Primary Education. Following that I had the opportunity to work in a range of schools before securing a permanent post in a large school in South Wales. I loved my time at this school and worked with some amazing children, but the idea of moving to America was constantly niggling away. In early 2011, I came across the advert for a teaching post at BISC, in a city that I had never heard of, and thought ‘Let’s do it!’. The more I researched Charlotte, the more I liked the sound of it, so when I had the call to say that the post was mine, I was over the moon. The risk has definitely paid off as I love working here: every day is different and I love that I play a small part in enabling children to be the best that they can.

I moved to Charlotte with my husband and boxer dog, Maverick. Our son, Jack was born here in 2012 so he keeps me busy for much of my spare time! I love travelling and relaxing on gorgeous beaches around the world – I have plenty more I want to visit on my Bucket List! I love water sports, such as white water rafting and kayaking and look forward to picking these up again once Jack is a little older.

There is a real sense of community both amongst the staff and with the families of our students. The children here genuinely seem to love learning, are very inquisitive and love to challenge themselves. I love that the children have such a big input into where their learning will take them.
