Citizens of a Global Community

  • andy-blog-030917

When asked to write a blog post, there is often a certain degree of fear as the rhetorical questions rush through my head.  “What will I write about? Will people agree with my content?  How do I relate to the audience?”

Once I had calmed myself and reflected upon the suggested subject, Global Community, suddenly ideas started to flow.  I started to think about our own school community and the many families who have roots firmly set in other countries.

However, does being born in another country or having family around the world make you a global citizen?

In my opinion no; to be a true citizen of any community including a global one, you have to be present, knowledgeable and most important - accepting.  These aforementioned values are something I strive to foster in my students, it is vital that our students are aware of the world around them.  At BISC Lincoln Park, we aim to give our students the foundations they need to become an active global citizen in the future.
