    Nicola Sargeant

    Year 1 Leader and Teacher

    Nicola Sargeant

I was born in Birmingham but spent most of my childhood in York where I went to university and gained my teaching qualification. I returned to Birmingham for my first teaching job and then moved and taught in North Carolina, at the British School in Washington D.C., and finally Dubai before coming here to Chicago! I love to travel, and this year being in Chicago has given me so many opportunities to explore places I've never yet made it to as well as a whole new city with so many different neighborhoods and areas I still haven't made it to yet!

I am originally from Cardiff in South Wales. I have spent the last 4 years teaching Year 1 in a British International School in Dubai, UAE. This experience has been highly rewarding, and I am looking forward to the next exciting challenge. I am really excited to be joining British International School of Chicago, Lincoln Park. The school shares my passion and enthusiasm for teaching, and I cannot wait to join the team. The school has fantastic facilities and offers an extra curricular program to help develop children's interests, something I am highly committed to developing further. Outside of school, I enjoy keeping fit, playing rugby, and exploring new and interesting places. I cannot wait to explore the city of Chicago and meet my new class, parents and colleagues.

I really enjoy living in Chicago, from seeing the city landmarks and museums as well as enjoying many of the fantastic restaurants here. I also love traveling, and I am making the most of seeing America with the Californian west coast and Yosemite National Park being some of the highlights so far.

    Year 1 Teacher

    Stephanie Davis

I have been at the British International School of Chicago, Lincoln Park, for 3 years, teaching in Reception. Prior to this, I taught Year One in a rural school in Yorkshire, in the North of England where I am from.

Both here and in my previous school I have relished leading the subject of Literacy, as it is something I am passionate about. It teams well with my other love, the performing arts. I am a qualified dance teacher with the International Dance Teacher’s Association and taught singing, dance and drama for a stage school for 11 years, working with children from 2-18.

I have loved the global nature of the school where it has been wonderful to bring together the varied experiences of our families and learn from each other. The children have a real interest in and knowledge of the world as a result, which makes teaching and learning all the more exciting. I look forward to my move to Year 1 and being part of the next step of the learning journey I have seen so far in these children throughout Reception.

I was born and raised in the northwest suburbs of Illinois. Upon graduating high school, I moved to Chicago to attend Loyola University Chicago where I graduated with a degree in Sociology. I have conducted research for the Ounce of Prevention program which provides education to low-income families. My research inspired me to become involved with education first at a preschool and then here at BISCLP. I love living in Chicago because you get to meet all kinds of people with different backgrounds and stories. Chicago has so many diverse neighborhoods, so far I have lived in six different ones including Hyde Park and Rogers Park. My favorite place to visit is the Art Institute of Chicago, I never tire of that museum!
