Year 4 Teacher

Born in Yorkshire in the North of England, I lived there with my family throughout my childhood until moving to Manchester for University. As part of my degree, I spent a year studying at the College of William and Mary in Virginia. This was such a wonderful experience and I have been keen to return to the US ever since. After graduation, I worked for an American company in London for five years. During that time, I was fortunate to travel lots with my job and worked with people from all over the world. Once I decided to change careers, I trained to be a teacher back in Yorkshire before moving once again to London and teaching in an East London school. For the last four years, I have taught at a British International School in Hong Kong. I have loved living in Asia, as it’s so diverse and has provided such fantastic travel experiences – my passport is now full of stamps! Moving to Chicago is so exciting, and I am ready to explore a new city as well as spend time visiting new places in North America. In particular, I am looking forward to watching more live sport and music as well as experiencing seasons again – I have not had a winter in four years so will definitely need to also do some shopping to buy some warmer clothes!

I believe that creativity and challenge help our students get better every day. It is important to me that every child feels that every school day is important and in order to encourage these values, all children need to be given the opportunity to learn. For lessons to be engaging, interesting and meaningful, as teachers we need to be flexible and innovative to respond to the needs of the children in our classes. If all children feel confident and ready to embrace a challenge, they will make progress and more importantly, be inspired to learn even more!
