I have been at British International School of Chicago, Lincoln Park, for 3 years, teaching in Reception. Prior to this, I taught Year One in a rural school in Yorkshire, in the North of England where I am from.
Both here and in my previous school I have relished leading the subject of Literacy, as it is something I am passionate about. It teams well with my other love, the performing arts. I am a qualified dance teacher with the International Dance Teacher’s Association and taught singing, dance and drama for a stage school for 11 years, working with children from 2-18.
I have loved the global nature of the school where it has been wonderful to bring together the varied experiences of our families and learn from each other. The children have a real interest in and knowledge of the world as a result, which makes teaching and learning all the more exciting. I look forward to my move to Year 1 and being part of the next step of the learning journey I have seen so far in these children throughout Reception.
Every student has their own talents and interests. It is our duty as teachers to utilize these to tap into their potential. Once a child is engaged, they become a partner in their learning and begin to drive this themselves. From here, there is no limit to what they can achieve and no pre-determined path that their learning will follow. That's what makes a learning journey so exciting!
