By Mr. James Lewis, Year 6 to 7 Transition Leader

What’s fantastic about our curriculum is that it enables students to make connections and think critically across subjects. This was especially the case during Enterprise Day for Year 6.

This month, Year 6 students at both BISC campuses came together for a day of bonding and creative problem-solving as they prepare to transition into middle school next year at the South Loop campus. Dubbed Enterprise Day, the activity tasked students with working collaboratively in intercampus teams to design, advertise and cost a mascot product for the upcoming Olympic Games. (Click here to read a blog post about the whole day.)

To complete the project, students had to tap into skills they’ve been learning in different subject areas and in workshops presented on Enterprise Day by Secondary School teachers. First, students took a deep dive into presentation skills with English Specialist Mr. Ben Percival’s How to Present tutorial. Then, they switched gears and explored Design and Materials with Design Technology Specialists Mr. Matt Davies and Mr. Sanjit Binning. In the pictures above, you can see students applying what they learned in their third and final workshop, Finance - Planning for Profit, facilitated by Math Specialist Ms. Amanda Copus.

Our teachers are highly skilled in differentiated learning styles and work closely with students to maximize learning potential. So, students feel confident in their ability to synthesize what they’re learning across subjects for an all-encompassing project like Enterprise Day. In the end, Enterprise Day provided an outstanding showcase of student learning and understanding.

Well done!
