2 Teachers Chosen for Prestigious King’s College London Master’s Program We’re pleased to announce that two teachers from our school have been chosen to take part in the King’s College London Executive Master’s in International Education.

We’re pleased to announce that two teachers from BISC South Loop have been chosen to take part in the King’s College London Executive Master’s in International Education. This is an innovative, part-time program designed specifically for teachers working in international schools worldwide and is exclusive to those working at Nord Anglia Education. Mr. Andrew Gilhooly, Head of Secondary School, and Mr. Andrew Stone, Assistant Head of School—Academics, are two out of 50 candidates chosen for this program.

Mr. Gilhooly, who joined BISC South Loop in 2007, has degrees in engineering and mathematics. Before coming to Chicago, he was a Math teacher in South Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire in England. Under Mr. Gilhooly’s leadership, the Secondary School continues to expand as well as demonstrate fantastic results on IGCSE and IB examinations. Mr. Stone is celebrating his 10th year at BISC South Loop. Previously, he was a Geography teacher at Kingsbury High School in London. During his career at BISC South Loop, the school received the Secondary Geography Quality Mark, awarded by the Geography Association based in the United Kingdom.

“This program gives participants the opportunity to be part of developing the cutting edge of education. Coupled with that is the chance to mix with like-minded educators in the Nord Anglia family, where the sharing of good practice will benefit all the schools and most importantly, the students,” said Michael Horton, Headmaster of BISC South Loop.

Over 100 teaching professionals in Nord Anglia schools applied for the Executive Master’s programme. Developed by King's College London in association with Nord Anglia Education, the two-year Executive Master's programme starts in September 2016. The programme, which is fully funded by Nord Anglia Education, will focus on developing participants' understanding of effective school leadership in an international education environment.

“I am looking forward to progressing my own learning in leadership and teaching, which in turn will help me to be a better leader and practitioner at the school,” said Mr. Gilhooly. “I am expecting a challenge, and hopefully, I will be able to display the 'grit' and determination so often demonstrated by our students at BISC South Loop,” said Mr. Stone.

Taught through online and face-to-face sessions, including residential elements, the programme also features a research project through which participants will address a current education issue in their own, or another, school. Successful completion of the programme will result in the award of an Executive Master's in International Education from King's College London.

“As you know we are as ambitious for our people as we are for our students. We are committed to supporting our teachers’ professional development and career aspirations because this will ensure that our students learn from the best. This fantastic opportunity is exclusively available to those working in our schools. We hope it will build on their experience, develop their leadership skills and prepare them for unique opportunities while working in a leading education environment brings,” said Andrew Fitzmaurice, CEO of Nord Anglia Education.
