Year 2 Teacher

The staff and children at BISC South Loop are incredibly friendly, welcoming, and most of all, hardworking! I am absolutely thrilled to teach here and can’t wait to contribute to this fantastic school.

From a young age, I was always determined to become a teacher. I was initially inspired by my aunts and grandmother, all of whom were in the teaching profession, and always spoke passionately about their wonderful experiences. Throughout my own school years, I was fortunate enough to be taught by some incredible teachers who made my own education a happy and supported one. I always aim to ensure that the enthusiasm for teaching and learning these people inspired within me is echoed in my own teaching practice.

I studied English Literature at the University of Northumbria in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and studied for my Post Graduate Certificate in Education in Primary Education in Leeds. I began my teaching career in a busy three-form entry school in the inner city of Bradford as a Year 1 Teacher and then Reception Teacher. During my time in Year 1, I took it upon myself to lead a large team of teachers as well as secure parent relationships by including them in their child’s learning through field trips and events in the school. I have worked closely with children who are new to English, as well as those with English as an additional language, scaffolding their learning to ensure they progress as well as enjoy their time at school. Working in a multinational school enabled me to promote inclusive educational policies and encourage a supportive learning environment, while ensuring high-impact learning and rapid progression. While teaching about the importance of inclusiveness in my own classroom, I aim to promote an acceptance and understanding of other cultures among the children, encouraging them to become valuable members of an integrative society.

I love to travel and have been lucky enough to visit beautiful places in Europe and the United States, and I hope to continue my adventures from my new home in Chicago. I love to bake, read and have recently taken up yoga! I also like to take time to raise money for charities close to my heart, particularly those studying neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
