Primary French Specialist

BISC South Loop is part of an international family of schools with a real focus on building a global network, both for students and teachers. I am amazed by the wide range of opportunities available to students, which allow for the development of the whole learner and ensure that all children can flourish, both academically and socially.

Having always had a passion for language learning, I completed my undergraduate degree in European Business Studies with French at the University of Salford. I spent my third year on work placement at a large telecommunications company in Orléans, France, where I was able to become fluent in the French language. Upon graduating, I completed a TESOL course to teach English to speakers of other languages.

I then worked for two years at a further education college where I had the opportunity to co-coordinate a range of projects with local Primary Schools. This is when I realized that my future lay in Primary School teaching. I returned to complete my PGCE in Primary Education with French at Manchester Metropolitan University. As part of my training, I spent a month teaching in a Primary School in Poitiers, France, where I gained a good understanding of the French education system and further developed my love of all things French!

Since completing my PGCE seven years ago, I have worked in two large, inner-city Primary Schools in Manchester, both as a Classroom Teacher and a Year Group Leader. It has always been an ambition of mine to teach in an international school, and I'm very excited to take my career in a new direction at BISC South Loop.

In my spare time, I enjoy being outdoors and like nothing better than a good hike in the countryside with my family and friends. I also love to play badminton and squash to keep fit. Living in Manchester, a city with a rich musical heritage, I am a keen concert goer and I look forward to continuing this in Chicago, a city with an equally exciting music scene. Furthermore, as an avid ice-hockey fan for many years, I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to watch the Chicago Blackhawks live in action! This will be my first time in Chicago and the United States, and I can't wait to discover everything it has to offer.
