Head of World Languages & French Specialist

I teach middle and high school French here at British International School of Chicago and feel lucky every day to teach students with a passion to learn and such enthusiasm for French. I also feel very fortunate to have taught some of my students for many years. I have been teaching the International Baccalaureate Diploma for three years and love the diversity of the course and challenging my students to communicate at a high level in French.

I grew up in a small town on the west coast of Scotland; I have always loved to travel and realized my passion for learning French at a young age. I completed my undergraduate degree in business and languages in Glasgow, spending the most wonderful year studying at a small business school in La Rochelle, France. This further confirmed my love of the language and after graduating from university I accepted a job in Villars, Switzerland. It was here that I had my first teaching experience, being a classroom assistant in Prekindergarten-Grade 5 classes.  I also learned to ski during my time in Switzerland, as during winter, it was (lucky for us!) part of our school day.

Following this, I decided to return to the UK to complete my postgraduate teaching qualification at University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. I then taught at two large suburban middle and high schools before accepting a position at BISC in 2007.

BISC is truly a unique place to work for many reasons! We have small class sizes and wonderful students who love to learn, plus we have an exceptionally motivated and dynamic team of staff. The Secondary staff is a great team, and we are all excited to work at our new campus in the South Loop!

After more than seven years, it is safe to say that Chicago is now home. My husband and I have recently purchased our first home together, so I’m very much enjoying settling into my new neighborhood and making our house a home. I love living in this city, with everything that is has to offer.  In my free time I love to work out, spend time outdoors at the many festivals, concerts and events in the city. I enjoy cooking and eating out – I would definitely consider myself a "foodie" and love trying out new restaurants with friends.
