Math Specialist

I think what makes British International School of Chicago, South Loop unique is its commitment to personalizing and enriching students’ learning to ensure that every single student has the opportunity to achieve as highly as possible. This is a key element of the ethos of this school as well as my own beliefs about education.

After graduating from Newcastle University with a First Class Degree in Mathematics and Statistics, I started my teaching career in Newcastle. Math has always been a subject I have enjoyed, and as I progressed through school and my degree, my enthusiasm and passion for the subject increased. I believe it is a subject which allows for enjoyment, progression and creativity; aspects that should be encouraged in every lesson.

After completing my Post Graduate Certificate in Education, I spent four years working in northeast England’s leading independent school. Alongside my teaching, I have been involved with a range of both academic and extracurricular activities. I coordinated an annual Year 10 Math Challenge team, coaching students to compete in a national competition. I ran the school’s Amnesty International Group, encouraging and aiding students to keep up with current affairs and take part in global campaigns for human rights. I have also choreographed for two school musicals, as well as assisted with direction, costumes and props for both productions.

Having spent my childhood traveling the world, living in Hong Kong, Guam, California and various cities in the UK, I am passionate about travel. Joining  British International School of Chicago, South Loop is a fantastic opportunity to continue to explore.

In my spare time I enjoy film, contemporary dance, art and literature. In addition, I am IANTD certified in scuba diving; raised on the pacific island of Guam, I spent much of my childhood in and around the ocean. Having lived in the United States for many years, I am excited to be back and making the move to both Chicago and BISC South Loop with my boyfriend. Being in Chicago also brings me closer to my mother who currently lives in New Hampshire.
