Andrew Stone

Geography Specialist & Assistant Head of School, Academics

I am fortunate to work alongside an extremely talented and enthusiastic team of teachers, and together we are always striving to find innovative and engaging ways to deliver our curriculums.

I was born and raised in Leicester, England, and I studied for my geography degree 30 miles up the road in Nottingham. I trained for my teaching qualification at Leicester University, and I took my first position in 2002, relocating to London to teach Geography at Kingsbury High School. I moved to Chicago to teach at British International School of Chicago during the glorious summer of 2006, and I have immersed myself in the Bulldog spirit ever since!

I have donned various hats during my time in Chicago, and currently I have the responsibility and privilege of being Assistant Head of Secondary School, focusing on academics. In 2012 our school received the Secondary Geography Quality Mark, awarded by the Geography Association based in the United Kingdom. This was very much a point of pride, and I look forward to further developing our Geography program and helping our students to become better geographers. Our staff and students have a passion for learning that is unparalleled in my experience. Long may this continue!

Geography is my passion, and international mindedness is my goal. I have a keen interest in the art of vexillology, and I recently began my antique maps collection. I attended my first Leicester City football match in 1989, and life as a Foxes fan has been a rollercoaster experience ever since. In 2008 I established Belmont Football Club, and for seven years we have been competing in the local soccer leagues (winning the third Division Lincoln Park League title in 2011). Although we now lose more than we win, our love of the game has not tired over the years! I look forward to exploring more of the U.S. National Parks with my wife and young son, and visiting as many of the 50 states as possible.
