Taster Day

Wednesday, June 1 | 8:25 a.m. to 4:40 p.m.

Children in Year 6 at both BISC campuses will get a "taste" of Middle School by taking part in a full day of activities at BISC South Loop. They'll participate in lessons covering a variety of subjects, including Design & Technology, History, Geography, Physical Education and Science. There will also be time for the children to meet and get to know our Middle School Student Ambassadors. Bus transportation will be provided to students at BISC Lincoln Park.

Transition Evening

Wednesday, June 1 | 4 p.m.

We invite you to attend this event dedicated to answering your questions about the Middle School transition and to exploring the Middle School curriculum. You’ll hear from Mr. James Lewis, Year 6 to Year 7 Transition Leader at BISC South Loop, as well as other members of the Secondary School faculty. While this event takes place, your child will be participating in clubs led by High School students.

To RSVP for Transition Evening, complete the form below by Wednesday, May 25. You can review the curriculum ahead of time by downloading the 2016-17 Curriculum Guide at the bottom of this page.

Language Options

In Year 7, students elect one foreign language from a choice of French, Spanish, German and Mandarin. Students pursue their target language for all of Middle School and study four lessons per week, enabling them to develop in-depth communicative skills with conversational classes and deeper subject, grammatical and cultural knowledge.

Please review the following language options and then select one by completing the form below no later than Friday, June 3.

French & Spanish

The French and Spanish programs are shaped to build on previous learning in these languages. Students who choose French or Spanish should ideally be able to speak and write in paragraphs and have knowledge of a range of basic vocabulary and some key verb tenses.

German & Mandarin

The German and Mandarin programs are pitched at beginner learners who are experiencing the language for the first time. If your son or daughter has had little or no prior experience of learning French or Spanish, we recommend they choose German or Mandarin as their language choice.

Dual Linguist

We also offer a dual linguist program with French and Spanish for two lessons of each per week. This is a fast-paced and challenging course for experienced linguists, and must be approved by your child’s language teachers. If you think your son or daughter may be eligible for this pathway, please select the Dual Linguist program below and also contact Mrs. Lauren Moore, Head of World Languages, at lauren.moore@bischicagosl.org. Students who are already fluent in a foreign language will be expected to follow a language in which they are not fluent.
