STEAM MakerSpace Project

In Mr. Rico’s grade 7 math class, the students are working on a STEAM Makerspace design that will potentially be used for the next school year. 

On Wednesday, Mr. Rico invited Mr. Joo Sik Yoon, vice president/development department of Lotte Properties(Chengdu) Limited, and Mr. Doo-hwan Kim to do a presentation about designs. Mr. Kim is a professional architect who designed the Lotte in Chengdu. He showed us some of the designs that he did and how he comes up with his ideas. He said he incorporates “nature, architect, and culture.” There’s a lot of factors in constructing a building such as the noise in the surrounding areas. 

Mr. Kim was able to guide students in drafting their own designs. Students received feedback on how they should rearrange furniture or storage in the room depending on where students work. The layout is important. 

With the help of our Korean teacher, Ms. Katherine Hwang, this opportunity gives the students a chance to talk with a professional architect and get advice on their designs.
