Term 1 Review

As we enter the last week of term, it is good to stop and reflect on everything that’s happened in our busy school.

We have welcomed new students and teachers into our school community, which has everyone enjoying and benefiting from our warm and welcoming school atmosphere.

Examination results confirmed the positive direction our school has been taking in recent years by producing the best results in the school’s history. With careful planning and dedication from the teachers, our curriculum continues to develop and react to modern teaching methods taking full advantage of being part of the family of Nord Anglia Schools.

The Global Campus continues to provide unique opportunities for our musicians, scientists, artists, photographers, future writers and budding journalists as well as making contributions to World Children’s Day across the globe. The creative way we engage with the other 45,000 Nord Anglia Education students just gets better every year.

Back in school, we were thoroughly entertained during our recent Variety Evening. The students, again, performed beyond their years showing bravery and maturity in equal amounts whilst on stage. This will continue for the cast of 'Beauty and the Beast,' as rehearsals continue for our school production in Term 2.

Success on the sports field has also been consistent throughout this term. Our boys’ senior football team were unbeaten in a very impressive season. Our girls have competed well in netball and have made significant improvements in all age groups with our U16 team winning their league unbeaten and placing 3rd in a local tournament. Next term is the start of the junior teams to show their prowess on the sport fields across Doha.

The Student Council ran their first event of the academic year as we enjoyed the Pizza and Pyjamas movie night before heading into Activities Week. Again, it was more ambitious this year and the students certainly were spoiled for choice on what to do. A huge effort was made by all teachers who ran activities in school, around Doha and overseas providing the opportunity to make new friends and experience new things. Who knows what next year will look like!

Amongst all the wonderful opportunities we provide, teaching and learning remains the key focus. Year 11 students have just completed their IGCSE mock examinations and Year 13 are currently preparing for their mock exams at the start of Term 2. Well done to all those students and I am confident we will show continued improvements when results are published this summer.

On Saturday, 9 December was the International Breakfast and what a colourful event it was. The community feel around our campus was inspiring as we enjoyed food from around the world. For me, the warmth and generosity of our parents was the highlight of this event, with the delicious Shawarma coming a close second!

In true Compass International School Doha style, we continue to squeeze as much out of every day in school and, even in the last week, we will celebrate Qatar National Day with a programme of dancing, cultural quizzes, falcon displays and traditional games.

For those teachers who still have energy, we will be hosting our first ever Faculty Team Triathlon on Wednesday after school. School closes at the end of day on Thursday, 14 December for Winter Break.

I hope you enjoy time with family and friends and I wish you all the very best for the New Year.

Kind Regards,

Paul McConnell
