Dear Parents,

Last week was another busy week here at Gharaffa!

Thank you to all parents who purchased books from the school’s Book Fair, there were many books which delighted our children and parents.  Also last week, we received our school photographs.  The children looked stunning.

Last week, we gathered under the school pergola for this month’s FCS Coffee Morning.  It was wonderful to catch up with many of our parents.  Thank you to all those who were able to attend.

On Thursday, our Year 1B and 3A children presented their class assembly to the school.  We were delighted that the children were able to share a story from their literacy lesson which was delivered in a clear, confident manner.  We also enjoyed listening to the children’s 'Transport' song.  Well done to all our 1B children.  Dinosaurs was the theme of 3A’s assembly.  Once again, the children presented their lines confidently and the school enjoyed hearing a few jokes which certainly impressed the audience.  Well done 3A and thank you to all the staff who helped prepare the children for both assemblies.

The school is currently preparing for National Day on Wednesday, 13 December.  The children may come to school in Qatar National dress or wear the colours of the Qatar flag.  Class teachers will inform parents of any further requirements for the day

We are now building up to the end of term and finding out which House team will be presented with the House trophy.  Our House Captains are already attempting to predict who this Term’s winners will be.  The children will find out in our whole school assembly on Thursday, 14 December.

Parents, as we are currently preparing Term 2's whole school calendar it is important that I inform you of a couple of events in which we may need your support.  Week beginning, 14 January is STEAM Week (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Maths).  Children are invited to wear a special costume for the week.  They may choose to come to school dressed as a scientist, engineer or a famous person such as Thomas Edison or Bill Gates.  We will be also contacting our parents to request additional support with the week’s activities.  This year, Book Week will take place from the 25 February.  Once again, the children can choose to dress in character for the parade which will take place at the start of the week.  Next term, we also plan to host a School in Action morning.  This will be held on Wednesday, 7 February from 7.45am to 9am.  Parents will have the opportunity to participate in lessons throughout the school, including PE, Music, Arabic and Dutch.  Please pencil this date in your diary, it promises to be a fun morning.  There are many more events planned for the term.  More information will follow shortly.

Last week was the final week for school run ECAs with the exception of the Guitar Club who are currently preparing for the end of term assembly and the school production group.  Private clubs will run as normal.

Have a fantastic week.

Kind regards,

Karen Wilson
