MK Primary Headlines | Week of 5 March

  • Primary Headlines 5 March

Dear Parents,

This week we have been celebrating Book Week and what a great week it has been!

Some of the fantastic activities have included:

  • A reading café

Each break-time the students enjoyed reading in the courtyard whilst enjoying milkshakes and biscuits.

  • Secondary and Primary buddy reading

It has been an absolute pleasure to see the way our older students have supported our younger readers, showing great kindness, patience and humor.  In fact, one student remarked, “I wish we could do this every week!”

  • Guess the book cover competition

I have been amazed by the number of students, teachers and parents who entered the competition.  Congratulations to Aiyana for her winning entry.

  • Classroom door decorating competition

Each class were set the challenge of decorating their classroom door in the theme of their assigned Oliver Jeffers book.  Mr McConnell, Mrs Elliott, Mrs Maha and I, had the unenviable task of picking a winning entry.  After much discussion, we reached a unanimous decision choosing Mr Allan’s Year 1 class door for their fantastic interpretation of “Lost and Found”!

  • Best dressed character

We rounded off the week with a Character Dress Day.  Students and teachers came to school dressed as a range of characters from modern and classical literature.  The students looked absolutely fantastic, a huge thank you to you, the parents for all of your efforts in making the day such a success.

Congratulations to our phase winners:

Year 1 and 2 – Abdulla Awad

Year 3 and 4 – Afief Putra

Year 5 and 6 – Ilyas Pirhabi

  • Visiting Julliard Artists

We welcomed Dr. Benal Tanrisever and Abby Gerdts from the Julliard to school today.  Dr Tanriserver and Ms Gerdts led drama and music workshops linked to our Book Week theme.

Next week we have our first ever cross-campus Sports Day.  This involves students from Years 3 to 6 and will be at the Al Sadd stadium on Wednesday, 15 March.  An email has been sent today with further details.

The Family Bookshop will be in school on Sunday until Tuesday.  Students will be able to purchase books before and after school, and also during first and second break.

Have a wonderful weekend.
