With 5 weeks left in the school’s academic calendar the children are still working incredibly hard. Please remember that the children will be continuing their learning until the last day of term. Attendance and punctuality are crucial if your child is to make adequate progress. Please try to ensure that your child remains in school until the last day on 25th June.
This week, the children began their end of year assessments. It is important that parents are aware that these assessments give only a small piece of information about your child’s progress. Assessments are ongoing throughout the school year and gauge any gaps in your child’s learning. However, it is important that children are well-rested before their prompt arrival in school each day.
This week, our Year 6 children attended their graduation party which was held at the Al Sharq hotel. This was a prestigious event with dinner and dancing. The children seemed to have a wonderful time. Also this week, our Year 3 to Year 6 children participated in a QPPSSA swimming gala. They competed against numerous Doha schools, coming in 4th place. This was a great achievement for our team.
On Wednesday, we held our monthly FCS (Friends of Compass School) meeting where we discussed next week’s Healthy Eating Coffee morning. All parents are welcome to join us on the school playing field for a quick 10 minutes ‘Wake up and Shake up’. Following our vigorous exercise we will move into the Sports Hall where parents will have the opportunity to consume healthy snacks, have nails painted, participate in Zumba and gain some great ideas as to what constitutes a healthy snack box. The nurses will also be present, demonstrating how to perform CPR on a child, checking blood pressure and testing for diabetes. Of course, all of these activities are optional. This event will take place next Tuesday, with a 7am start on the field.
Also next week, we will be hosting our Early Years transition meetings. Parents of children moving from Early Years 2 to Year 1 are invited to a meeting at 7.30am on Wednesday and parents of new intakes are welcome to join us for our 12.30pm meeting on the same day. These will be very useful meetings which will hopefully relieve some of your anxieties.
Parents could I please take this opportunity to remind you that if you haven’t paid your child’s school fees that this needs to be actioned immediately. In some Year Groups there are now very few places available as the school has now started accepting external applications.
I would like to end this newsletter by announcing the arrival of another baby at Gharaffa. Erin Jordan our amazing Director of Marketing and Admissions gave birth to a beautiful baby boy just over a week ago. We wish the family much love and happiness.
Have a lovely weekend.
