Madinat Khalifa Primary Headlines | Week of 18 June

Dear All,

As we head towards the end of the academic year, it is an opportunity to reflect on the successes and experiences our students have been involved in at Madinat Khalifa.

Since the first day I arrived in balmy August, I continue to be amazed by the welcoming atmosphere at MK. Ensuring our students and families feel welcome, safe and supported the moment they walk through the school gate is of paramount importance to every member of our team.

A highlight of any school week has been our Thursday morning assembly. Through class assemblies, we have been transported back in time, into space, to the rainforest, a circus and the freezing Arctic to name a few. Our Learning Celebration assemblies recognise individual student achievement across the curriculum and beyond. There have been showcases about the student leadership opportunities we provide for our students: House Captains, Student Council and Digital Leaders have all led informative, interactive and fun assemblies.

This academic year marked an important milestone as we celebrated 10 years of Compass International School. This grand occasion was marked with a celebration bringing together students from our three campuses. It was an opportunity for our choir, funk band and individual musicians to showcase their many talents. The artwork of Year 1-6 students was displayed proudly in the hall and the students created a time capsule filled with artefacts that embodied the school. Watching our students collaborate with such enthusiasm and share their immense pride of being part of the school is something that will live long in the memory.

We celebrated our annual International Week with a fantastic international breakfast. Our school community is made up of 60 nationalities and so many of these nations were represented. Students and parents alike enjoyed tasting cuisines from around the globe, learning more about the culture and history of our students’ home countries.

December saw the first ever Years 1 - 3 production ‘The Minibeast Musical Melody’ and in March we were treated to a performance of ‘Oh What a Knight!’ by our Years 4 - 6 students. Both were remarkable events with our students performing with confidence, skill and, most importantly, joy.

It is not only the students that make a high performing school but also our team.  It has been an honour to work alongside such a committed team of teachers, learning assistants and support staff. Through their patient, positive and supportive approach, our students have flourished academically inside and outside the classroom.  I enjoy visiting the classrooms and am always amazed that at any time of the day, in any class, I am faced with motivated, engaged and happy students who work independently and collaboratively with ease. This is what makes Compass International School Doha truly special.

For those of you who are leaving us, I wish you good luck and hope you take many happy memories of your time at Madinat Khalifa. If you are returning in September, have a happy and relaxing summer and I look forward to working with you again next year.

Kindest regards,

Jimmy Frawley
Head of Primary, Madinat Khalifa
