John Adams

Data Distribution Manager

I have been working at Compass International since August 2015. My career in Education started when I gained my qualifications from Exeter University, in South West England, not a million miles from where I grew up. Prior to this I studied at the Universities of Keele and Zurich, also spending time in Australia. Following a career which has, until now, been based in both inner and outer London, I have made the move to Qatar with my family to take up this challenging and exciting role.

My most recent position was that of Assistant Head Teacher, where amongst many other roles, I held responsibility for data analysis and pupil progress. I lead in this area by drawing on my interest in online technologies. I developed online systems to record and monitor pupil progress / attainment in detail.  Analysing data, identifying areas for development on an individual-student basis and working with teachers to ensure students are given the very best support in achieving their full potential is a true passion of mine.

I enjoy discovering new technologies and deploying existing equipment in new ways to support teaching and learning. Technology can be an expensive resource, and I endeavour to ensure that it is used for purpose, not just because it is there. I believe the technology we put in the hands of our teachers and students should enable them to work smarter, harder, more effectively and always more efficiently; equipping them with the skills demanded by the global marketplace.

I was asked to provide a favourite quote for this pen portrait.
A statement from the late Peter Drucker, American businessman, sticks in my head and supports my way of thinking. He stated that, “There is nothing quite so useless, as doing with great efficiency, something that should not be done at all.”

Beyond the school gates, I enjoy all things outdoors and coastal, be that camping with my wife and children, exploring new places, walking the coastal paths around Devon and Cornwall, getting out on the water, or simply just relaxing on a beach, home or abroad! I am looking forward to discovering what Doha has to offer in terms of coastal activities, and also trying something new. The coast aside, I enjoy running and cycling, having completed the London Marathon and local competitive events.
