Karen Wilson

Head of Gharaffa Campus

In January 2017, I joined CISD as Head of the Gharaffa Campus.  Prior to this, I was Acting Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher at Doha English Speaking School, Qatar.

I have lived and worked in Doha for over 21 years.  My particular educational passions include, English, Music, the Performing Arts, Personal, Social and Emotional Development plus Assessment for Learning.  I firmly believe that it is our duty to realise the potential in your child; creating independent children who are able to question, reflect and challenge whilst considering the thoughts and feelings of others.

Prior to joining the Compass team, I was Acting Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher at Doha English Speaking School which I joined in 1995.  In 1997, I was asked by the Governing Body to create a pastoral curriculum which could be integrated into the School, developing the personal, social and emotional needs of each individual child.  In 1998, the new curriculum was introduced which i continued to develop over the years.  I have produced numerous documents for parents and teachers, including policies, such as Anti-Bullying, Assessment and numerous curriculum guidelines.  I have also created guidelines for parents whose child may struggle to write creatively or find self-expression an arduous task.  I firmly believe that Assessment for Learning provides children with the skills and knowledge necessary to take their learning to the next level, giving the children ownership of their learning.

From the age of 7, I have been a keen musician.  I played the Cello, Guitar and Piano in my childhood and managed to sustain my interest in the Cello into my early 20s when I had the opportunity to perform in international orchestras.  I have also enjoyed acting and I am a keen artist.

I am extremely proud to join Compass and the Nord Anglia team.  The School’s philosophy and attention to the development of the whole child ensures that your child’s learning journey will not only focus on high academic standards but will ultimately create confident, caring, well-rounded citizens.

I look forward to working with the Compass team and building strong partnerships with all children, staff and parents.
