Mark Tebbutt

Mark Tebbutt

Year 12 Form Tutor and Head of Modern Language

I arrived in Doha in August 2015. I went to school in Birmingham before studying Latin American Studies at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne (1985-89), and completed my PGCE at the University of Central England in Birmingham (1997).

My first position was at an independent school for girls in Staffordshire where I taught French and Spanish to GCSE and Spanish to “A” level from 1997 to 2003. I then moved to Auckland, New Zealand in 2004 where I taught Spanish IGCSE and NCEA levels 1 to 3 along with Spanish AS level.

A move to the British International School of Shanghai, Pudong Campus occurred in 2008 where I  headed the Modern Foreign Languages Department, teaching Spanish ab initio and later Spanish B as part of the school’s IB Diploma Programme.

A move in July 2014 to Cebu International School in the Philippines saw me continue teaching the IB programme as I taught both French and Spanish ab initio.

I have coached cricket in the UK and New Zealand along with coaching football in New Zealand, China and the Philippines.

I have taken part in and organized various school language trips, exchanges and tours to France and Spain along with skiing trips to the USA as well as cricket and football tournaments in New Zealand and China.

I would like my students to continue to learn from my love of languages and sport.

My favourite quote is: “Hasta la victoria, siempre”.  Che Guevara

What "Be Ambitious" means to me: To me this means always looking to improve on what skills you have.
