Liam Cullinan is the Head of Secondary here at Nord Anglia International School Dubai. With a MA in leadership and education Liam strongly believes that being a lifelong learner is a key part of being an outstanding educational leader. As one of the founding members of the leadership team at NAS Dubai, Liam established an innovative curriculum that allows for a personalised learning approach to be embedded within the secondary school through outstanding differentiated classroom practice, relevant option pathways, intervention, use of data, personalised tutoring and early entry exams.
NAS Dubai is a truly student centered school and anyone who meets Liam appreciates his passion, enthusiasm and love of education and the impact this has on young people. The students at NAS Dubai regularly comment how they are “recognized as individuals” while feeling thoroughly supported. This underlies the values that underpin Liam’s educational philosophy.
In addition to his day to day work, Liam was part of the UK Government’s National College for Teaching and Learning Teacher Training Working Party from 2011 to 2014, with a focus on improving teacher training and recruitment. The growth of school centered teacher training in the UK was a direct result and Liam personally supported the training of 80 teachers per year across Birmingham schools.
Prior to arriving in Dubai, Liam was part of the transformational leadership team at Perry Beeches, Birmingham that has been recognised as one of the most successful schools ever and in the top 1% of schools in the UK for the last 5 years. This led to the opening of five new schools across Birmingham, UK. Liam’s knowledge of what makes an outstanding school, coupled with his experience of recruiting exceptional staff and his passion for teaching and learning, are all key factors which led to his prominent position at Nord Anglia Education’s flagship school.
The dedication Liam demonstrates is to ensure schools have the ideal components for all students to achieve their full potential and reach their personal goals. His secondary students often describe him as ‘an inspirational, engaging yet demanding leader’ This is core to why students enjoy coming to school and working to their best abilities with Liam and his team.
