Secondary Humanities - History

I will be teaching history at NAS Dubai from August 2016, having spent the last two years teaching Year 3 at the school. I moved to Dubai two years ago with my husband, Steve, who is teaching Maths at NAS Dubai and our daughter, Betty, who is 7 and a student at the school. I trained as a secondary teacher in Canterbury and taught history for twelve years in Greenwich before moving to Dubai.

After so long as a humanities teacher, it has been both a challenge and breath of fresh air to work with younger children and learn a new curriculum. I now have a solid understanding of the methods used to teach younger children and the skills they come equipped with to Year 7. I am also grateful to have experienced the special relationship that exists between a primary class and their tutor.

I am at heart though very passionate about history and at university I completed a Joint Honours Degree in History and English Literature. This last two years I have missed the debates and discussions that arise from teaching teenagers from ages 12 to 18. I also missed teaching children about the compexity of social change, varying ideologies and, most of all, what history has done to create the world we live in today.
