Since graduating, I worked for five years as a Year 2 teacher on the outskirts of a city in Lancashire. During this time, I was Key Stage 1 co-ordinator for a short period of time and also led numerous subjects including PE, RE, geography, history and able, gifted and talented as well as mentoring a newly qualified teacher. I have taught Year 1 here at NAS Dubai for the past three years and since January 2016 have also been Head of Year 1.
I completed a Master’s degree in Teaching and Learning in May 2014. Whilst studying for this degree, a main focus of mine was learning through play and the transition between Reception and Year 1. As a year group, we make every effort to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible for both children and parents and have strong links with the Early Years team to ensure this.
I have always known I had wanted to become a teacher since the age of five. I have fond memories of primary school and have enjoyed all my time in education. So much so that when I was not at school, I insisted my younger sister, friends and family be my ‘class’. They love reminding me of this now!
I have a passion for working with young children and enjoy watching them grow and develop to
their full potential as independent individuals. I believe the learning environment should cater for all learning styles, where children feel safe and happy and should allow plentiful opportunities for them to investigate and explore, developing life-long learning skills. I like to let children take ownership of their learning and teach through themes and topics in innovative, creative and enjoyable ways. I always strive to form a good relationship with children and their parents or carers.
When I am not in the classroom, I enjoy travelling, keeping fit, reading and socialising and can often be found at the beach topping up my tan. I thoroughly enjoy teaching at NAS Dubai and believe the diversity of children and staff from across the globe allows us to provide children with the best education and learning opportunities.
