primary teacher helping year 3 students in maths class

Melissa Green

I have thoroughly enjoyed my first year in NAS Dubai and am delighted to remain as part of the Year 3 team next year!

My teaching career began in the UK and I moved to Dubai with my husband in 2006. In my 12 years of teaching I have covered all age ranges from FS1 through to Year 5 and thoroughly enjoy the challenges and differences between all the age ranges. Throughout my career, I have challenged myself to take on different roles within school. I have been a subject leader, team leader of two year groups and directed two annual KS2 productions, ‘Bugsy Malone’ and ‘The Pied Piper’, which I thoroughly enjoyed! I love to see and support children outside of the classroom whether this is through a sport they enjoy or part of the arts as this is just as important for their development as their academic success. Having been in Dubai for many years, I have loved watching the city grow and develop along with the children I began teaching in FS1 as they moved to secondary schools.

Developing the whole child is my focus as a teacher. I believe in building strong relationships with every individual child and their parents. Therefore, creating a safe environment that encourages them to become independent, think creatively and take risks with their learning to allow them to blossom into their full potential.

I love to challenge children’s thinking and some of my favourite teaching moments have been listening to my students’ opinions when having philosophical debates at the end of our day as they try to make sense of the world around them.

In my spare time, I enjoy exploring new and upcoming places in Dubai, relaxing at the beach and when I can, travel to new countries to explore their culture and history.
