primary teacher helping year 3 students in maths class

Rebecca Thorne

I am thrilled to be part of the Year 2 team next year. Having taught in Dubai for four years, I am pleased to have the opportunity to teach in KS1 where my teaching experience first began.

Having taught for four years in the UK, I decided to undertake a new challenge and embark on a career in the UAE. Before joining NAS Dubai in September 2015, I worked at Kings’ Dubai for two years, where my commitment and professional approach enabled me to take on the role of Year 6 Leader. Previous to this, I was given a unique opportunity to teach at a Secondary school near my home in the New Forest, where I taught a transition curriculum to Year 7 students and English to KS3.

My passion for learning and teaching began during my English Literature degree in Gloucestershire, where I volunteered at a local primary school. From that moment on, I knew which path I would take. I believe adaptation of teaching and learning styles is vital for each child’s progress and self-esteem. The creation of an environment that enables all children to feel secure and confident is the foundation of a child’s academic and social progress.

Although my more recent experience has been in KS2, I am very much looking forward to working in Year 2, which is where I spent my first year as a teacher. Outside of school, I enjoy exploring new places and travelling further afield. I also love to swim and ski and can’t wait to visit family back in the UK and explore Turkey this summer.
