Fine Arts Scholarship

We are proud to offer scholarships that reduce tuition fees for students who excel in the arts. Fine Arts Scholarships are available in: Visual Arts, Dance, Media Arts, Music and Theatre.

Scholarships are awarded based upon the applicant’s entrance audition/portfolio, interview, and academic records. They are valid for all four years of high school, contingent upon scholarship criteria being continually met. Candidates must apply by February 10th, 2017 in order to be considered for the fall trimester of the same year.

Eligibility Requirements

Candidates must be rising 9th grade students (current 8th grade) and must meet all NBPS eligibility requirements.

Application Requirements

By February 10, 2017

  • NBPS Application (and all materials)
  • Video audition (round 1) for music, dance or theatre applicants
  • Portfolio for visual arts and media arts applicants
  • “Shadow day” to experience NBPS (students will participate in the appropriate fine arts class)
  • Letter of recommendation from a fine arts teacher/director

On February 25, 2017 (Students invited to final round)

  • Interview
  • Live audition and/or portfolio review

Audition Requirements

Dance     +/-

  • Video audition by February 10, 2017
    • One 2 minute solo - ballet, modern or jazz
  • Live audition/interview (by invitation) on February 25, 2017
    • One 2 minute solo - ballet, modern or jazz (must provide own musical accompaniment on a CD or mobile device)
    • Perform a ballet combination, progressions across the floor, and a jazz combination.

Media Arts     +/-

  • Film/Animation portfolio (round 1) by February 10, 2017
    • Film: one 1 – 3 minute film or a 5 page screenplay (in Celtx format)
    • Animation: one 20 – 30 second animation
  • Individually scheduled interview (by invitation)

Percussion     +/-

  • Video audition by February 10, 2017
    • Solo of choice from the FBA list for snare drum and mallets.

Video audition (performing arts round 1)

The first round of our selection process for performing arts (music, dance, theatre) candidates consists of a video audition review.  Performing arts candidates will submit a video audition that demonstrates their best work (see above requierments).  Videos should be submitted to hollanderr@nbps.org via youtube or a link to a file sharing sevice (i.e. google docs, dropbox).

Selection and notification

Following the round 1 review process, all candidates will be notified whether they will be invited to round two interviews/ auditions by Monday, February 13, 2017.   Families will be notified of scholarship award before April 17, 2017.
