Young Journalist Programme Launches

Nord Anglia Education are excited to link with the Young Journalists’ Academy to offer an exclusive programme to inspire and train young reporters in our schools around the world.

We are excited to announce that we have partnered with the Young Journalists’ Academy to inspire and train the young reporters in our schools around the world.

The Global Classroom Young Journalist Programme offers our students the opportunity to learn from leading journalists in a series of exclusive masterclasses throughout the school year. Each video masterclass is hosted by a different journalist and offers tips and advice on different aspects of modern reporting. Our students are challenged to demonstrate their new skills in a short activity which will be judged by the experts.

“The Young Journalists’ Academy is excited to partner with Nord Anglia Education and to offer your students the wealth of knowledge and experience from a network of well-renowned journalists who work for a diverse range of media publications. We do this because we believe in the next generation of news-makers. There are students at Nord Anglia Education schools who have talent and dedication and we look forward to meeting and working with them,” said Viv Regan, director, young journalists’ academy.

The first masterclass, The ABC of Good Journalism, is hosted by Mick Hume, writer for The Sun and The Times and author of There is No Such Thing as Free Press. Good writing is at the heart of good journalism and Mick shares his three key rules to help our students craft great articles.

Masterclass two will see Dr Tiffany Jenkins, writer of a weekly column in The Scotsman, discussing opinion pieces, while Shiv Malik from The Guardian, will advise how to get the best out of an interview in the third masterclass. A special masterclass hosted by Anne Jolis of The Spectator will teach students about reporting in a conflict zone.

Students in year nine and above are additionally invited to apply to the Global Classroom Young Journalists Academy. Between January and April, selected students will experience the world of journalism first hand as they complete assignments based on current affairs with advice from experienced journalists.

Whether students are interested in a career in the media, or simply want to develop a critical eye on events in the world around them, the Global Classroom Young Journalist Programme will support students to develop vital transferable skills, such as an inquiring mind, perseverance, the confidence to take risks, and a concern for society.

Based in London, the Young Journalists’ Academy is a unique programme aimed at inspiring and training the newsmakers of tomorrow in partnership with some of the world’s leading media organisations.
