Our British Secondary School Curriculum
Our secondary education curriculum follows a skills-focused programme that is widely used in the UK and across many British heritage and other international schools to prepare students for the demands of universities worldwide.
Secondary School Subjects At Key Stage 3
Key Stage 3, which spans Years 7 through 9, is about a broad and balanced approach to studying different subjects. Following the English National Curriculum, the KS3 curriculum at The British School of Guangzhou includes the following subjects:
- English
- Mathematics
- Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology)
- Languages (Chinese, Spanish, French, or English as an Additional Language)
- Physical Education
- Computer Science
- History
- Geography
- Drama/Dance
- Music
- Art
Our secondary curriculum develops students’ key critical thinking and analytical skills and their ability to communicate ideas effectively within their chosen subject areas, which will assist with future challenges at university and in the workplace.
Students who successfully complete KS3 of the curriculum across Years 7 through 9 proceed to KS4 in Years 10 and 11 .
Secondary School Curriculum Enrichment
- Leadership Opportunities: In addition to formal positions of responsibility, we also provide students with opportunities to show leadership and initiative. These include subject prefect positions and running after-school activities for younger students.
- Residential Trips: Our students take part in a few trips throughout Sixth Form to develop their leadership skills and to allow opportunities for personal growth. These have included trips to Europe, the US, and throughout China and Asia with outward-bound courses in Hong Kong involving sailing, kayaking, and trekking.
- Global Campus: All BSG Secondary students have access to Global Campus, Nord Anglia Education’s global education platform. This enables students at BSG to interact in challenges, events, and competitions with their peers at NAE schools across the globe and to work with world-renowned collaborators The Julliard School (known for performing arts), MIT for STEAM subjects, and UNICEF for humanitarian causes and social impact.
