Staff Profiles: Matthew McLaughlin

Early Years Teacher - Matthew McLaughlin

Reception Teacher

I first qualified in Wales, completing my bachelor degree in Joint Honours in Biology and Forensic Science.   I then moved to London where I completed my PGCE in Forensic Science and Biology.  I have been teaching in London for four years and have taught children of all age groups in Primary school but mainly in Reception and Year 1.

I love teaching in London schools as London is such a multicultural city. I have risen to the challenges of children arriving at school being unable to speak a word of English.  I have enjoyed working in London and would like to transfer the skills that I have learned to an international school.  I have visited China eight times and have enjoyed every single visit. The culture, the people, the food make me want to come back to explore more. I have always wondered what it would be like to work and live overseas and I had no hesitation to apply for this job when I found this fantastic opportunity to work with Nord Anglia. I am very excited and cannot wait to start this new chapter of my career in The British School of Guangzhou.

I am married with three wonderful children. I like participating in a lot of different sports rather than watching. I like playing football, cycling and swimming.  I enjoy outdoor sports a lot and I like rock climbing with my siblings in my spare time.

I also have some more relaxing hobbies such as chess. I have a collection of several chess sets from the different countries that I have visited.  On a nice day with a good breeze, I would fly stunt kites.  While I was in China, I had learned to play majiang, which was great fun. I had also learned to play jianzi with family members or with local residence in parks.
