After finishing my Honours degree at De Montfort University, Leicester, I began teaching in Guangzhou’s most successful language centre.  From here, I wanted more of a professional challenge and to be a part of somewhere that would allow my skills to continue to grow, and after successful interview, found that environment I desired here at the British School of Guangzhou. I have worked at BSG for 8 years now and have developed a broad range of skills across the curriculum and have been lucky enough to teach ages 3 to 18 and learn from a skilled team of brilliant educators.

I spent many years in university ultimately leading to becoming a teacher. My first stint as a student in Melbourne yielded a double degree in Genetics and sign language. Continuing into post graduate education I trained as a Genetic counsellor. After meeting my husband, who works in the secondary school, I took a break in education to visit the UK and travel. On our return to Australia I trained as an EAL teacher and had my first experience in the classroom whilst in South Korea. I was so inspired by this that I again took the plunge into education completing a Masters in primary education.

I have worked as a teacher helping young language learners for over 20 years. Initially, that was in my native UK, where, after completing my PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages, I taught German and French in the English Midlands. After also acquiring a CELTA qualification, I came to East Asia and have now over 15 years’ experience of teaching young English language learners in various parts of this region, particularly Korea and Japan.
