Amila McGinn

German First Language Coordinator/ MFL Teacher

I studied German Linguistics, English Linguistics and Media Studies at the University of Paderborn, Germany and afterwards was awarded a Post Graduate Certificate in Education with QTS from the University of York, UK. I worked as a university tutor as well as a teacher for a number of years both in Germany and in the UK. Throughout my career life I always used languages and very much understand and appreciate their relevance for students’ development as global citizens and many enriching opportunities language studies can create for our children.

In my last post I worked as a Head of German and, although I loved it, I knew that in order to continue to grow as a classroom practitioner I needed to look for new challenges and opportunities for career development. The British School of Guangzhou with its Global Campus and the Nord Anglia University was able to offer everything I was looking for, as a teacher and as a parent of 2 children, Larissa, Year 12 and Laurence, Y10.

I am married to James, a keen runner, and when we are not working, we enjoy spending time together as a family, exploring outdoors, travelling and learning about other cultures and traditions.
