I began my teaching career in 1982 at a small village School in Norfolk. However, it was during my 6 years at Bangkok Patana School that I discovered my passion for international education. After 6 years as a Deputy Head in Wiltshire, I was ready for another international challenge, and in 2004, I helped to set up the British School of Beijing as the founding Deputy Head.

I was initially attracted to joining the British School of Guangzhou due to the challenge that it represented. The School was a very different place when I arrived in 2010 with our oldest cohort just about to embark on their IGCSE courses. During the interim time the school has grown to offer an education to students aged 1-19, the facilities have been developed year on year and the students have achieved fantastic sets of examinations results that are comparable with the best schools in the world.

I entered education because of the opportunity it gave me to work with young enquiring minds. Being able to inspire children to develop skills for their life ahead (wherever that may be in the world) is a privilege.

    Head of Early Years

    Katherine Weir-Davis

From a very early age, children were my passion and I aspired to a career that involved making a difference to young people’s lives. Having achieved an honours degree in Psychology (specialising in Child Psychology) from Loughborough University, I then decided to complete a PGCE in Primary and enter into the teaching profession. I taught in the UK for several years before embarking on an international career. My husband and I moved to Spain, where I taught in a British school for eleven years. During this period I became Deputy Head of School.

There is no greater privilege than working with young people during their formative years. When opportunity and support is combined with motivation and time, it is a recipe for success that all learners, young and old, can follow. Throughout my career, I have been incredibly fortunate to work in schools where such an approach exists. Whether working in dynamic state and private schools in the UK, or overseas in Bahrain, Dubai, Thailand and, now, China, the day-to-day interactions with both students and colleagues is a never ending source of enjoyment and challenge.

Coming from a background in the UK's hospitality and service industry, I have enjoyed worked within the Chinese education sector for the last 15 years of my professional life.

My wife is currently Deputy Head of Early Years at our fabulous school and both our children attend, one in Primary and the other in our rapidly growing Secondary school. Being so close to different phases within the school has given me a posibily unique and certainly valuable perspective of BSG as it has grown during my six years living and working in Guangzhou.

I don’t have too much time for hobbies but on quiet days when the children are entertained with friends or study, I can be found cycling the beautiful Guangdong Greenways or playing football with colleagues and friends if a game can be found.
