After completing my Zoology degree at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, I first worked in a school as a special needs teaching assistant. This initial experience inspired a passion for working with children and I began my PGCE to become a teacher as soon as possible working within Year 2 & 6 classes. Upon completion, I returned to the school which I had previously worked at but as a Year 5 teacher.

I graduated in 2014 from Liverpool John Moores University, where I achieved a BA in Primary Education with Early Years. I have spent the last two years teaching in Northern Ireland. In my first year I took on the role of a Learning Support teacher. This position enabled me to gain a greater understanding of the curriculum as a whole, and has provided me with the opportunity to work with children at each stage of primary education. In my second year, as well as KS1/KS2 class teacher, I was given the additional responsibility of coordinating special educational needs.

I am originally from a lovely city in the heart of West Yorkshire called Leeds. I studied my PGCE in York. After living and teaching in and around Leeds for a year I decided I wanted a new adventure. I love to travel and decided to move to the Middle East, where I have lived for the past 7 years. Starting in Kuwait and moving to Dubai 4 years later. From there I travelled all over the world, some of my favourite places are the Philippines, Bali, Guatemala and the Cayman Islands.

I am originally from the beautiful north coast of Northern Ireland where I studied English Literature at Queen’s University, Belfast. After a few years of working in various countries around the world, I settled in Edinburgh to train as a Primary School teacher. Over the years my passion for working with children has taken me all over the world, from remote village schools in South India to the ski slopes of Switzerland. In 2013, I left Scotland to join the BSG team in Guangzhou. Having never visited China before, it was a daring step but an adventure I just couldn’t resist.

I have been teaching for five years. I have previously taught for four years at a Nord Anglia School in Qatar in the Middle East. There I taught a year in Reception, two years in Year 1 and a year in Year 2. Teaching in the Middle East has given me a lot of experience in teaching English Second Language learners and has made teaching Literacy a passion of mine. Doing this creatively and in a way that children find enjoyable is something I strive for in my lessons.

My first experience in international teaching took place at the British School of Beijing, where I had the opportunity to work before attending university. After completing my MA at the University of Aberdeen, UK, I took on a role as a teaching assistant at the British College of Brazil. It was during my time in Brazil that I truly fell in love with teaching and started to develop a strong interest in the different teaching styles and how these have an impact on children’s learning behaviours.

I studied a BSC (Hons) in Behavioural Science at the University of Dundee, where I developed a passion for child development.  After completing the course, I worked as a learning representative for the communicators workers union in BT. Through this role, we worked in line with a local college to develop a learning centre and offer the employees evening course to develop their lifelong learning skills. This led me to develop my passion for teaching and I decided to complete my PGDE in Primary Education at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. Over the last 4 years, I have taught in a large International school in Vietnam, and more recently, in Bangkok.

Before starting university, I took the opportunity to work at the British School of Beijing as a Teaching Assistant. Here, I not only developed a keen interest in education and working within the Primary setting, but also thoroughly enjoyed being immersed in a completely new culture and seeing amazing parts of the world. I returned to England to complete a Bachelors Degree, followed by a PGCert in Education Practice. In the following year, I became fully qualified as a teacher when I completed a PGDip in Primary teaching.
