After completing my Zoology degree at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, I first worked in a school as a special needs teaching assistant. This initial experience inspired a passion for working with children and I began my PGCE to become a teacher as soon as possible working within Year 2 & 6 classes. Upon completion, I returned to the school which I had previously worked at but as a Year 5 teacher.

I studied Applied Biological Sciences at the University of Bath, graduating in 2001. During my degree I was lucky enough to spend a placement in Indonesia studying the diving methods of local fishermen. This was my first experience of Asia which I loved, the people I met and the places and cultures I experienced have always remained with me and I always hoped to return to this part of the world. Following this I completed my PGCE in primary education and then spent 7 years teaching full time in Wiltshire, working with children from reception to year 6. Following the birth of my first son Rory, I moved to Cornwall with my family where I have been teaching since. I love teaching and feel privileged to have worked with so many amazing children and their families in my career so far.

I graduated in 2014 from Liverpool John Moores University, where I achieved a BA in Primary Education with Early Years. I have spent the last two years teaching in Northern Ireland. In my first year I took on the role of a Learning Support teacher. This position enabled me to gain a greater understanding of the curriculum as a whole, and has provided me with the opportunity to work with children at each stage of primary education. In my second year, as well as KS1/KS2 class teacher, I was given the additional responsibility of coordinating special educational needs.

I am originally from a lovely city in the heart of West Yorkshire called Leeds. I studied my PGCE in York. After living and teaching in and around Leeds for a year I decided I wanted a new adventure. I love to travel and decided to move to the Middle East, where I have lived for the past 7 years. Starting in Kuwait and moving to Dubai 4 years later. From there I travelled all over the world, some of my favourite places are the Philippines, Bali, Guatemala and the Cayman Islands.

My teaching journey began 8 years ago in the UK where I worked for 5 years before moving to international teaching. I love the excitement and adventure that working with children brings. I particularly enjoy teaching literacy and bringing children’s books to life in the classroom.

I am originally from the beautiful north coast of Northern Ireland where I studied English Literature at Queen’s University, Belfast. After a few years of working in various countries around the world, I settled in Edinburgh to train as a Primary School teacher. Over the years my passion for working with children has taken me all over the world, from remote village schools in South India to the ski slopes of Switzerland. In 2013, I left Scotland to join the BSG team in Guangzhou. Having never visited China before, it was a daring step but an adventure I just couldn’t resist.

I have been teaching for five years. I have previously taught for four years at a Nord Anglia School in Qatar in the Middle East. There I taught a year in Reception, two years in Year 1 and a year in Year 2. Teaching in the Middle East has given me a lot of experience in teaching English Second Language learners and has made teaching Literacy a passion of mine. Doing this creatively and in a way that children find enjoyable is something I strive for in my lessons.
