Barbara Merino

Year 2 Teacher

My first experience in international teaching took place at the British School of Beijing, where I had the opportunity to work before attending university. After completing my MA at the University of Aberdeen, UK, I took on a role as a teaching assistant at the British College of Brazil. It was during my time in Brazil that I truly fell in love with teaching and started to develop a strong interest in the different teaching styles and how these have an impact on children’s learning behaviours.

After an amazing year in Brazil, working and developing amongst excellent professionals, I decided to pursue a career in teaching. I went on to complete my PGCE through the University of Sunderland. During this course I had the opportunity to enhance my teaching skills and my curriculum knowledge.

I aim to create an environment in which the children learn through having fun. I believe in an inclusive classroom where children can collaborate as a group and have the opportunity of learning from each other.

My favourite thing in the world is my bulldog, Gordo. He travels the world with me but is currently not very happy about the heat in Guangzhou! Other than my dog, I love to travel to new places and explore new delicious cuisines. Living in China has given me the opportunity to travel around South East Asia and learn about diverse cultures. On the weekends (when I am not with Gordo), I like to cycle to the mountains and enjoy a day away from the bustling city of Guangzhou.
