Christopher Rees

Year 4 Teacher

After graduating with a BA (Hons) in Media from the University of Plymouth, I was elected as the Sports President for the Students’ Union. During a 2 year period, participation figures increased and my positive influence provided me with an opportunity to work directly for the University to advise on future policy and strategy relating to Sport. It was during this time where I worked closely with the Primary Education department – teaching specialist sport modules - that my interest in teaching was confirmed.

I consequently completed my PGCE (Primary) at the University of Southampton in 2013 and my NQT year 12 months later teaching a year 5 class in Christchurch, Dorset. Wishing to develop my understanding and adaptability across the KS1/2 age range, I then taught for a year as a supply teacher across Devon; providing an invaluable experience. As a result of this and my previous experiences, I was employed as a Year 6 teacher at Christchurch Junior School with the additional leadership responsibility to develop PE and Sport (a role I had been given during my NQT year). The development and increased expectation of the curriculum during this time provided a challenge I thoroughly enjoyed. I am excited to be at the British School of Guangzhou as an ambitious and progressive school.

I love being involved in sports and fitness, music (especially playing guitar and song writing) and being involved in as many new opportunities that can push my body and mind. When traveling to a new country, I like to see it from a different perspective with friends or family; preferably through trekking, climbing, swimming or anything that can provide a new adventure! However, when all is said and done, there is nothing quite like relaxing with a home cooked meal and getting lost in a good book.
