Staff Profiles: David Barton

Year 4 Teacher

My teaching background originated in 2007 when I started working as an EAL teacher for a Primary school in Foshan, China. Prior to this I worked as a Marketing Manager in England for 5 years. After Foshan I then moved to Chengdu where I taught business and ICT in a Secondary School. I returned to Guangdong in 2008 and continued to teach EAL, Business Studies and ICT at an International school here in Guangzhou.

I joined BSG in 2009, originally as an EAL teacher, but was given the opportunity to develop my teaching and study for my PGCE. Since then I have worked in Year 3 and Year 4 at the school. I feel that my EAL background has many benefits which I use in my day to day work as an international school teacher. I am also a qualified FA-trained football coach, which has enabled me to coach different football teams as well as take FOBISIA sports teams to different events in Asia.

I am a very interested in sport and love playing a range of sports, especially football. I have a young son, so he takes up most of my time, but when I am free, I do like to listen to music and visit new places. I love Chinese food and have tried to cook it a few times with mixed results! I am quite a friendly, easy-going person, who likes working hard and being part of a team.
