Staff Profiles: Queenie Xu

Music Teacher

My passion for music started at a young age when I learnt to play the violin aged 7. At school I always thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the orchestra and choir events.  I view performance as an imperative part of music and so decided to undertake a BA in Performance Music at Xing Hai Conservatory, Guangzhou. During my university years, I was able to take advantage of the many musical opportunities that came my way.

Teaching violin at music centres and schools in Guangzhou, I really found my calling. I have always been deeply touched by the way music helps to create and bind a community together. I came to work at BSG four years ago through my music connections and thoroughly enjoy teaching music to the Early Years students. At BSG I have extended my repertoire of musical instruments by learning the piano and undertaking a range of professional development courses, which include Kodaly Certification 1, Kodaly System and Music Movement in the Early Years.

Travelling and exploring different places is very important to me. I thoroughly enjoy going to a new country and trying my hand at something challenging. Eating healthily is also really important to me and I enjoy cooking. Friends love my cooking so they usually invite me to dinner but I always end up being the chef!
