The study of English Language and Literature was always my passion, which led to me selecting this area as the focus of my BA Undergraduate Degree at the University of Essex. I thoroughly enjoyed my course; I particularly enjoyed the literary element, finding many of the set-texts fascinating. After the completion of my degree, I found myself beginning my teaching career in Lincolnshire, before moving to Essex for a number of years and taking on the post of Head of English.

I was always passionate about the past from a very early age, growing up in an area of the UK with a rich and diverse history from early humans, the Roman Empire through to the Industrial revolution. My secondary history studies led me to pursue a Bachelors degree in History and Archaeology at the University of Wales and later, after spending a period of time travelling in south east Asia, a PGCE in History at University of the West of England.

I achieved a degree in Chemistry and Pharmacology from the University of Liverpool before completing my Post Graduate Certificate in Education. I have 18 years teaching experience, 7 of which were spent in the UK teaching in 3 different schools in the Merseyside area. I worked for 4 years in Kuala Lumpur before moving to my last post in the Cayman Islands where I worked for 3 years. The Cayman Islands is a very small country and even though I enjoyed living and working there, I was looking forward to returning to Asia and to a big city.

After completing my PGCE at the University of Exeter I started my teaching career on the beautiful Isle of Wight in September 2000.  I feel very fortunate that over fifteen years on, and three schools later, I am still in such a dynamic and exciting job where no single day is ever the same. There are no other words to describe teaching, other than it is a complete privilege.

I started my international teaching career by moving to Shanghai and setting up the English department in a brand new school. Two years later I moved to Hong Kong with the intention of staying for a one-year contract, however, almost 11 years later, having worked in 3 of the top 20 highest achieving schools in the country, and moving between the role of Head of English, University Guidance Counsellor and Pastoral Head of Senior School (and with three children in tow), I moved to join the dynamic team here at BSG.
